Potentia Term 1
Storytellers and Stories: In this unit students explore how and why storytelling is relevant to today’s society. Through examining a variety of short stories they examine the different ways that authors engage with their audience, how language shapes meaning, and the impact they have on readers. They also conduct a close study of a novel, considering how structure, characterisation and setting work together to explore particular themes. View the lesson plan

Australian Literature: Australian Culture and Representation: Students are to explore time in relation to people’s personal history and cultural world-view. They consider a variety of texts that explore elements of Australian identity with a close focus on Aboriginal voices and experiences bot before and after colonisation. Film and Poetry Study: Students complete a close study of film and poetic techniques and practice writing analytically about how different devices are used to shape meaning and explore ideas. Youth Culture and Multiculturalism: Student will consider what multiculturalism means to them, how it affects them personally, what it means to live in a multicultural society and how it changes a community or society at large. Students are to draw on their own experiences and will examine a variety of texts that represent different aspects of youth culture. They learn to plan, structure and write a narrative. The environment is very laid-back, so you can focus on what you’re doing and be relaxed while you’re studying. It helps a lot. My tutor for Legal Studies, Mohan, is great. He really helps you understand the concepts and ensures if you have any questions that they are explained.
